Ferdinand Marek war gebürtiger Prager und hatte in Wien studiert. Zu Ende des 1. Weltkrieges war er Sekretär bei der Brünner Handelskammer. 1918 wurde der Linksliberale zum ersten Botschafter der österreichischen Republik in der Tschechoslowakei berufen. Diesen Posten übte er bis 1938 aus. Marek war überzeugter Antifaschist und galt als fähigster Diplomat der Zwischenkriegszeit. 1945 wurde er von den Sowjets in Prag verschleppt und 1947 in einem russischen Gefängnis ermordet.
Ferdinand Marek was born in Prague and studied in Vienna. At the end of the first World War he was secretary of the Brno Chamber of Commerce. In 1918 the left wing liberal Marek was appointed the first Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in Czechoslovakia. This post he held until 1938. Marek was a convinced anti-Fascist and was regarded as most capable diplomat of the interwar period. In 1945 he was deported by the Soviets in Prague in 1947 and murdered in a Russian prison.

Die Fotos zeigen allen wichtigen Politiker der Tschechoslowakei und Österreichs dieser beiden Jahrzehnte. Ebenso sind bedeutende Aufnahmen aus dem Gesellschaftsleben vorhanden. Die Albumblätter sind großteils beschriftet, ebenso oft auch die Rückseiter der Fotos. So gelingt meist eine namentliche und historische Zuordnung der abgebildeten Personen. Insgesamt rund 250 meist großformatige Aufnahmen. Einzelne Seiten in den Alben sind leer, einzelne Aufnahmen fehlen. Ein großartiges Zeitdokument!
Sensational discovery: three albums with professional photographers shooting. The photos show all the important politicians of Czechoslovakia and Austria, these two decades. Equally important recordings from the social life are present. The album leaves are mostly labeled as often and the counter-matter of the photos. So it is most often succeed in a roll and historical perspectives of the depicted persons. A total of 250 mostly large-format photographs. Individual pages in the albums are empty, missing some shots. A great historical document!
